Michigan GMC Dealers Excited to Learn GM and Powermat Teamed Up for Cordless Car Phone Charging
DETROIT, M.I. – Michigan GMC dealers will probably be thrilled to hear the news that General Motors has teamed up with Powermat to make charging easier for their busy, on-the-go customers. General Motors is making it cordless, therefore more effortless, for owners to charge smart phones and other devices such as MP3 players and gaming devices in their GM vehicles.
"Imagine a mat or shelf where you could put your iPhone, your Droid or other personal device and charge it automatically while you commute to work, run errands or as you're driving on a family vacation," said Micky Bly, General Motors Lead Electronics Executive, in a GM press release.
Powermat is quickly becoming a pioneer in wireless charging technology as its products are spreading through electronic retail companies like Best Buy and Target. The Powermat comes in two parts. First is the powermat that does the actual charging and then there is what's called the receiver door. The receiver door is a built in battery that is attached to a phone case or simply attached to a device. It enables the phone to charge through the powermat to charge the battery with no wires at all.
Michigan GMC dealers will most likely report this as one of the new selling points of GMC vehicles thanks to the ease of the drop-and-charge ability of the Powermat device. General Motors plans on adding the device to Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles starting mid-2012, and the Chevrolet Volt will be the first to receive the technology.

Michigan GMC dealers may want to keep their eyes open for any demos or more information as they wait for it to arrive at their dealerships. General Motors is working toward making the technology in its vehicles just as advanced as the cars themselves, and the Powermat partnership seems to be moving GM in that direction.
