this is most likely a really dumb question but i want to get a electric chainsaw because there are more light weight then the gas ones but i don't want to be held back by the length of a cord or having it get in the way so my question is are there any electric chainsaws that can run off a rechargeable battery so i don't alway have to worry about the cord if not does any one know a good light weight gas chainsaw
just earlier today i came across a cordless black and decker chainsaw does any one know anything about how good it runs ?

to be honest cordless chainsaws are completely worthless. they say they cut up to 150 2" branches or something like that but i don't care for them i suppose they're ok until you squeeze the trigger and nothing happens. i'm not to fond of electric chainsaws either however they are cheaper and cut alright. however it depends on the size of the wood you're going to be cutting as well. i have 3 cotton woods in my yard that are 3 1/2+ft in diameter so natually i won't be able to use a chainsaw with a 16" guidebar on it. for a small job like pruning or something like that yea it should be ok. but if you're cutting down limbs out of trees and want a saw that's going to last you a long time i'd go with a stihl or possibly husqvarna. stihl makes a little ms 170 that's got a guidebar range of 12-16" which should be fine for occasional use and the one that's got a 14" bar is about $180 msrp which for a stihl is usually going to be about right from prices that i've checked in the past. and a husqvarna with a 14" bar is $199 at lowes. Mcullach makes a chainsaw with an 18" bar for around $160 i believe and those are the best ones. however mcullach is almost nonexistant now days. your best bet is spending the money on a stihl. they last ages and don't have many problems. however remember when buying a chainsaw safety is the main priority. look for a saw that's got a good chain brake also try to stay away from the tool less chain tensioners they brake easy chain tensioners that require tools are more of a hassel but are more reliable. also remember never to cut with the tip of the saw always cut as close to the powerhead as possible and never cut with one hand or above your head.
