Cordless Drills: Powerful And Versatile
If you are a beginner who is interested taking on some DIY home improvement projects, then you will need to have certain tools in your arsenal. This doesn't just mean the basic tools such as a hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, a level, and a tape measure, but power tools that will prove to essential for your success.
One of the most important tools is the drill, in particular cordless drills. These drills now do more than just provide increased portability, they also supply enough power to carry out many tasks and are more affordable than ever before.
It wasn't long ago that corded drills were still preferred because they were a better overall, with the exception of portability. Cordless drills lacked the power for heavy duty jobs, and charging the batteries took entirely too long. They were bulky and heavy, and the battery life was too short. Not to mention that they were initially very expensive.
With the improvements that have been made to the batteries, the problems with cordless drills before have subsided. Cordless drills overall still don't provide the sheer power than corded ones do, but they have enough to do the job.
The cheaper models of cordless drills still have issues with weight and charge time, but also cost less. The cheaper models are ideal for beginners or those who aren't going to use it often.
The battery voltage measurement is where you can find the power of a cordless tool. If you are just going to be using it for smaller tasks, then you probably only need something along the lines of a 12 volt cordless drill, which often has a Lithium-ion battery. If you are going to be doing more, then you might need a drill with 14-18 volts. When drilling into materials such as masonry and steel, a 36 volt cordless drill may be used by professionals.
It may seem that the more power a cordless drill has, the better. However, this is not always the case because more power also means that it's heavier. An average 9.6 drill approximately weights 3.5 pounds, and a drill with two times more power triples in weight. The vibration and weight felt while using a drill can cause fatigue just after a short period of time, especially when tilting it at awkward angles.
